My Hair Products

My hair is stubbornly pin straight and flat, so I rely on combination of products to give my hair texture with staying power. Through trial and error, I’ve (almost) figured out the regimen  that works well with my mane.

See below for the hair products I swear by!

My Favorite Hair Products:

Matrix Biolage Volumeboom Shampoo & Conditioner: Since I wash my hair everyday (I know, I know), I need a mild product that wouldn’t irritate my scalp. This fresh smelling duo leaves my hair feeling clean and lightweight.

ORIBE Surfcomber Tousled Mousse: If you don’t mind a little grit in your hair, you’ll love this stuff. It took me awhile to learn how to use this thick foam, but once I got the amount right, I was left with texture and volume. Be sure to start with less — it can get really sticky and leave white flecks in your hair if you don’t massage it all the way in… I know I’m really selling this, but in all seriousness it gives me that easy tousled, bedhead feel.

Matrix Style Heat Buffer Thermal Styling Spray: In full disclosure, I only recently got this spray. I use it on damp hair, before I blow dry and after I mousse it. It smells good and doesn’t weight my hair down.

Bumble and Bumble Spray De Mode: After I curl my hair, I finish my ‘do with this fine mist spray. I was using the City Swept Spray for awhile, but it wasn’t in stock at Sephora, so I decided to try this one out instead. The scent is flowery, but not too sweet and it doesn’t leave my hair feeling crunchy.

ORIBE Dry Texturing Spray: If I’m going out after work or my hair is feeling particularly flat, I’ll give it a little boost by shooting it with this cult favorite. I lift up sections of my hair and spray at the roots. It feels like dry shampoo with the chalky residue.

I’m a creature of habit. From the way I do my makeup to how I style my hair. I have a routine and generally stick with it — even when it comes to shopping. This tends to stunt my style evolution and pigeonholes me into having one “look”. To discover new brands and designers, I frequently wander through local boutiques. Last year, I was introduced to Totokaelo on a trip to Seattle. The shop was modern, yet welcoming and each rack was thoughtfully curated. When I came across this trench coat, I didn’t know what to expect since I’ve never heard of VIDEN before. The cut is definitely different, but I know it will sit well with everything I currently own. Totokaelo’s overall vibe is minimal with a contemporary twist — including the home accessories (dangerous!). Looking forward to adding new brands to my wardrobe, even if they’re only new to my closet (hello, Acne, Comme Des Garcons, Mansur Graviel).

Thank you for sponsoring this post Totokaelo and ShopStyle.

Yesterday morning I heard helicopters overhead and random outbursts of people cheering. I didn’t know if I was dreaming or it was real life. Then I remembered the San Francisco Marathon was happening, but had no idea it would be a few feet outside my apartment. So we ended up taking the dog for a walk and watched the runners sprint by. I don’t know if I’ll ever participate in a marathon, but at least I can dress in solidarity with track-inspired clothing — that counts, right?
