This sweater checks off all the boxes; comfy, versatile, and chunky without being too oversized. I’m wearing a US 6 and really love the relaxed, yet tailored fit. The sleeves are looong which I actually prefer since it feels like I’m wearing a plush robe. If you’re anything like me and find any excuse to don a socially-acceptable wearable blanket — this one’s worth the try.

I haven’t been to Maui in over 10 years and it feels so good to be back. Tyler and I have been spending most of our time on west side of the island, mostly resort hopping, frozen drink sipping, and beachside lounging. This dress was perfect for all three of those things, but I was mostly impressed with how it held up in my suitcase. I tightly rolled it up in my luggage and when I pulled it out, it was nearly wrinkle-free. The weather is a bit “cooler” this time of year, so I opted for long sleeves and even longer hemlines. The fabric is a medium weight, so If you’re headed to somewhere hot, this dress probably isn’t the best, but for a temperate climate with a breeze it’s great. I ordered a size 4 and with the wrap tie, there’s room to adjust looser or tighter. It’s currently on sale and comes in two completely differently colors/patterns.

It took me a few tries to find a top that fit perfectly over this midi dress. It was difficult to find a layer that wasn’t too long, too bulky, or all of the above. After trying it on with every sweater I own, I finally narrowed down a few combinations I liked the best. Here are a few characteristics I gravitated towards:

  • Waistbands: A tie-waist top like the one I’m wearing from Sweet & Spark, creates a shape and allows you to adjust the fit and lenght of the sweater. This style may be less common, so instead, try a cropped sweatshirt with a defined waistband. This gives shape to a normally straight silhouette.
  • Cropped Hemlines: I slipped on a long oversized sweater and it made me feel shorter. Heeled boots definitely helped, but I knew I’d be doing a lot of walking, so sneakers were a must. A shorter top, gives your bottom half the illusion of a long and lean frame.
  • Oversized Silhouettes: I ended up liking the combos where my top was oversized. I thought the proportions looked best when they were short and wider than the skirt of the dress. For a more fitted look, try layering a long sleeve turtleneck under the midi instead.
